Behind the scenes: The Porter Brotherhood Sessions and the road to '139 Steps'

Welcome to our first blog post - where the songs, the stories, and the soul all meet. 

We've had so many messages asking how our sound comes together - where the songs start, what gear we use, who's playing what, and what's next. This blog is the place to open the door and let you in on the process behind our upcoming album '139 Steps'. Expect honest updates, rough demos, studio notes, and a few suprises.

What 'indie soul with a heavy groove' means to us

Porter Brotherhood lives where storey - first songwriting meets beefy rhythm sections, melodic guitar lines, and church tinged harmonies. Big hooks, warm tones, and lyrics that sit close to the bone.

" If a lyric doesn't move you and a groove doesn't move your body, it isn't finished."

Where are the songs right now

* Album: 13 new tracks

* Theme and mood: resilience, love that's lived - in, and the healing pull of music.

* Rhythms: steady soul foudations with a few left turns  to keep the pulse interesting.

* Guitar and keys: melodic leads, Hammond swells, and textures that breathe.

* Vocals: raw, unvarnished takes - one eye on the lyric, both feet in the groove.

Pre - production: the part you rarely see

Before we ever hit the red light, we're carving songs down to the truth - tempo experiments, key changes, alternate bridges, lyric edits, and feel checks. We're chasing that moment when the track stops being an idea and starts feeling inevitable. That's when we know it's ready.

Studio plan for '139 Steps'

We'll be documenting the whole process - tracking days, live room set ups, and the odd wrong turn ( they're usually the best bits ). Expect short video clips, photo sets, and track-by-track notes once recording begins.
