John Davies locks the lead in for 139 Steps
Day four at Big Noise Recording Studio marked a major turning point for the 139 steps sessions. With the rhythm section and keyboards now complete, focus shifted to the lead guitar work. For that all eyes were on John Davies .
Across a full day in the studio, John laid down the lead parts for all 14 tracks on the album, refining tracks so that every line sat excactly where it should be.
John's work has been central to defining the bands sound since day one, but this session underlined just how integral his role is'
His playing bridges melody and rhythm, giving each song it's emotional lift without crowding the arrangement.
On tracks like Pictures of you and Brainfreeze his lead adds urgency and grit, and bring a sense of space and reflection on tracks like Addiction and Cuckoo's nest
With all lead guitars complete now the band moves on to vocals and final overdubs in the coming sessions.
